The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) is inviting submissions on the draft Biosecurity and Agriculture Management (Identification and Movement of Stock and Apiaries [IMSA]) Amendment Regulations (No. 2) 2024 – Consultation Draft (amendments).

These amendments will:

  • enable greater flexibility in the method used to mark beekeepers’ registered identifiers on hives
  • repeal provisions relating to temporary beekeepers.

Once enacted, the amendments will enable the DPIRD Director General to publish requirements for hive marking on the DPIRD website.

The consultation is in 2 parts:

  • Part I seeks comment on the IMSA Regulations Amendment Bill (No. 2)

Next steps

At the conclusion of the consultation period, survey responses will be analysed and a report prepared and presented to the Minister for Agriculture and Food. Following Ministerial review, a summary report will be published on this page.

  • Survey - Beehive marking in Western Australia

    Part 1

    In PART I of this survey the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) is inviting submissions on proposed amendments to the IMSA Regulations relating to beekeepers, which are intended to enable greater flexibility in the methods used to mark beekeepers’ registered identifiers on hives, and to repeal provisions relating to temporary beekeepers.

    The proposed regulations will allow the DPIRD Director General to approve the method by which a hive may be marked, accommodating an increasing range of hive construction materials.

    Part 2

    In PART II of this survey DPIRD is inviting feedback on the proposed specifications and requirements of the hive markings. Once the amended Regulations are in effect, these may be approved and published by the Director General on DPIRD’s website.
