Consultation on Stage 1 of the Poultry Regulations in Western Australia

In 2023, following comprehensive consultation, all Australian Agriculture Ministers endorsed the Poultry Standards and agreed to implement the standards in each state and territory.

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) is developing Animal Welfare (Poultry) Regulations (Poultry Regulations) in two stages to support implementation of the standards in Western Australia.

Have your say

We are now seeking feedback on Stage 1 of the Poultry Regulations.

Noting that the Poultry Standards are nationally agreed, this consultation will consider feedback on how accurately the Stage 1 regulations reflect and are able to implement the intended policy outcomes of the standards. It is strongly recommended to read the consultation paper, the consultation draft of the Poultry Regulations and the frequently asked questions on this webpage.

To make a submission:

If you have any difficulties registering or using the survey, please email: animal.welfare@dpird.wa.gov.au

In addition to completing the online survey, written submissions will be accepted. Written submissions must be provided to animal.welfare@dpird.wa.gov.au by the closing date.

Submissions close on Sunday 20 October 2024 at 5pm.

Next steps

Following the consultation closing date, DPIRD will consider feedback and amend the Poultry Regulations as appropriate.

A consultation report that summarises the survey responses and key themes will be published on this webpage, and stakeholders will be notified.

Once the regulations are finalised, a recommendation will be made to the Minister for Agriculture and Food to send the draft regulations to the Governor in Executive Council for approval.
